Administrative Changes at Summit Academy

Tyler Whittle, Principal and K-8 Director

It is an honor to be selected as the director of Summit Academy’s three K-8 campuses (Draper, Independence, and Bluffdale). I am thrilled to be able to continue as the principal of the Draper campus, and I look forward to working more closely with our new assistant principals, Mr. Gary Tucker and Mrs. Karen Johnson. Summit Academy has been home to my family and me for the last four years and I look forward to serving the rest of the Summit Academy community for years to come!

Here’s to an exciting 2017-2018 school year!

Mr. Gary Tucker, Assistant Principal

I'm looking forward to being part of the Draper campus team and serving alongside Principal, Mr. Whittle and Assistant Principal, Mrs. Johnson.

I bring over seven years of experience of teaching in the classroom. Previously, I was the chemistry and biology teacher at Summit Academy High School.  I was also a science teacher at Rigby High School and at Rocky Mountain Middle School, both located in Idaho.

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho where I enjoyed the great outdoors.  As a nature and science enthusiast, I earned my bachelor's degree in Fisheries and Wildlife from Utah State University and my master's degree in Environmental Science from the University of Idaho. In 2016, I earned an Educational Specialist degree in Education Administration from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

It is difficult to leave teaching at Summit Academy High School, but I'm excited to work with the great students, their families, and the faculty of the Draper campus!

Mrs. Karen Johnson, Assistant Principal

I am extremely excited to join, support, and contribute to Summit Academy as the Assistant Principal and Director of Curriculum at the Draper campus!

I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Brigham Young University followed by a master's degree from Utah State University, specializing in elementary literacy.  I received an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement from Weber State University and I have an endorsement in Reading and Advanced Reading from Utah State University. Presently, I am pursuing my doctorate in educational leadership from Brigham Young University and will graduate this year.

For the past seven years I have served as a licensed administrator in both elementary and secondary settings.  My experience includes creating conditions in which students can learn and thrive within the school setting. I believe in promoting growth and achievement for all students.

I'm looking forward to meeting and working with the Summit Academy students and their families!
