About me

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year!  My name is Jeneal Latzke.  This is my 2nd year teaching here at Summit.  Prior to this I taught first grade in Jordan school District while finishing my Bachelors at University of Phoenix. I have high expectations for my students but I also have lots of fun things planned for the year.

Here are my classroom rules

Our class rules are:

  1.     I will keep my hands, feet and objects to myself.
  2.     I will listen and follow instructions.
  3.     I will raise my hand before I speak.
  4.     I will be kind to others.
  5.     I will try my best!

Valentines Day

Dear Parents,

Our Valentine’s Day Party is quickly approaching! The party will be on February 14, 2019 from 2:00-3:00. The first grade would like to give the following tips:

  • Please have your child make their Valentine containers at home, however if your child does not have one on Valentine’s Day we have a white bag for them to use.
  • Valentines are optional, but if you chose to send valentines, please send enough for everyone in the class. There are 22 students in our class.
  • Sign the “From: ____” section, but leave the “To: _____” section blank to make valentines easier to pass out at the party.
  • If you would like to add something extra to the valentine, please make sure that it’s packaged.
  • Do NOT send gifts or presents for only one or two children. Please help us avoid hurt feelings.

Thanks so much! Happy Valentine’s Day!

The First Grade Team

jazz program

Dear 1st grade parents,

Our 1st grade program will be on January 31st at 1:30 in the Jr. High Auditorium. You may plan to take your children home immediately after the program if you wish.

Your children have worked hard at learning a Jazz song and dance, and learned about beat and rhythm. We look forward to sharing this with you and hope to see you there. Thank you for your help and support this year.

Sincerely,

The First Grade Team

No Homework

Dear parents,

Summit Academy Falcon Update

Summit Academy Falcon Update

Tuesday, November 20, 2018

Message from Mr. Tucker:

  • We want to wish everyone a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
  • We are noticing that quite a few students are being dropped off for school as early as 7:00 a.m.  The school doors will unlock at 7:30 a.m., but most supervision is not available until 8:00.  Also, please remember that when a student is tardy to school we need a parent to check them into the office.  We will then give the student an excused tardy pass to class.  Lastly, we encourage parents to make arrangements to have your students picked up from school by 3:15 p.m.; loading/supervision concludes at 3:30 p.m.
  • In order to create a more secure environment for our students, when on campus please check in at either office.  This is vital to our security and safety.  Additionally, we would ask that parents and visitors without a visitor tag to wait outside the elementary buildings and by the junior high office for students rather than meeting by classroom doors.
  • Please watch for pedestrians while driving through campus.  We have students, parents, and staff members going many different directions both before and after school.  Please remember that pedestrians have the right of way in the crosswalks and that we have designated loading/unloading zones.  We have procedures that are designed to keep everyone attending our school safe, and your cooperation will help us to reach that goal.

SOCKS FOR VETS!

  • A huge thank you to all that donated socks. We collected over 4,000 pairs which will be distributed by Wednesday to every disabled veteran in Utah.  Thank you for your generosity and for helping to promote a community activity.

NO School - Thanksgiving Recess

  • Wednesday, November 21st - Friday, November 23rd

Create A Parent Account NOW!

  • We are working on reducing our paper use by making our “Intent-to-Return” computerized for next year!  In December, you will be asked to fill out a form online.  The form states whether you intend to have your student continue their education at Summit Academy.  This will ensure a spot for your student for next year and it helps us know how many spots we have available for new/incoming students in the 2019-20 school year.  In order to complete this you will have to have a Parent Account.  See the attached flyer for directions.

Shin Min Students

  • On January 24th, 2019 we will welcome our sister school students from Shin Min High school in Taiwan to visit Summit Academy to learn English and American culture. This will also provide your children an excellent opportunity to learn the Chinese culture and language from Chinese students their own age.
  • We are in need of families to host the Taiwan students from January 24th to February 12th.  Each family can host one or more students in their home. The Taiwan students will be going to Summit Academy High School during the day. On Saturdays, a tour to different sites around Salt Lake City is being organized for the Taiwan students. There is a stipend of $150.00 offered by Shin Min to help offset the costs for host families.  The students will eat school lunch everyday which will also be paid in advance by Shin Min so host families only need to provide breakfast and dinner.
  • Please fill out and return the attached Host family information form and let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in hosting one or more students.
  • If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Mangelson at jmangelson@msn.com .

Counseling Corner

  • Building Happiness!
  • Many students rely on external factors for happiness. External factors have very little influence on lasting and long-term happiness. Sustained happiness takes work. Listed below are exercises, when practiced, that can help build habits of happiness.
  • Gratitude - write down things every day you are grateful for.
  • Acts of Kindness - Make an effort to do something kind for no special reason.
  • Positive Journaling - Get in the habit of noticing the positives that happen every day.
  • Fostering relationships, exercise, and meditation can also help build lasting happiness.

Testing & Teacher Data Days

Our amazing teachers spent time this Fall assessing our students.  At Summit Academy Schools, we value the information that we receive from multiple assessments.  In November, all teachers took extra time to review this valuable information.  We continue to analyze this data which includes state-administered SAGE data. We are excited to see our growth and look forward to sharing our results with you in the future.

Thank you for your support!
