Principal's Message

Dear Summit Academy-Draper Community,

We have had a wonderful start to this school year.  In mid-August, we welcomed our teachers back for teacher training and preparation days.  In addition to our returning faculty and staff, we welcomed several new teachers, para-educators, and other support staff to our school.  We are happy to have them as we work to fulfill the mission of Summit Academy which is to “provide a rigorous educational environment based on the high academic achievement and specialized instruction for the benefit of all students.”

On August 23rd, we reopened our doors to the 1000 students we serve from Kindergarten to 8th grade.  Since then, we have hit the ground running.  Our focus as a school this year has been on Algebraic Thinking and Informational Text and our teachers and students have done extremely well to support this initiative.  We are excited about the kind of learning that will take place in every classroom as we focus on this together.

Some of our other 1st Quarter highlights include:

  • Two successful Spirit Nights.  We want to thank both Bahama Buck’s and Golden Spoon and all those who came out to support our school.  As a reminder, all monies raised through Spirit Nights, Fall Festival, and Jogapalooza stay here at our Draper campus.
  • Our junior high school students showed support for Childhood Cancer Awareness Week by sporting gold accessories and donating to Primary Children’s Hospital.
  • 5th Grade classes attended a walking erosion field in Draper.
  • 2nd Grade classes received a visit from the Aquarium.
  • In spite of the menacing weather, our 3rd Annual Fall Festival was a huge success.  Thank you to our vendors, our SPO Board, our volunteers, and all who came and enjoyed this community event.
  • Our boys and girls cross country teams qualified and participated in the State Meet and Benjamin Dastrup (8th grade) finished 1st overall and the boys placed 3rd
  • Our two volleyball teams completed their successful seasons and represented the school with Falcon Pride.
  • 6th Grade worked on their ancient civilizations unit and made Egyptian masks and were able to decorate them as a culminating experience.

As the 1st quarter comes to a close, we are thrilled about what lies ahead this year at Summit Academy-Draper.  I want to thank you for the role you play in making Summit Academy-Draper the amazing school that it is.  We are filled with Falcon Pride each and every day.

Go Falcons!!!
